9 Things To Know About Living In Bakersfield California

A Friendly-Oriented Town

Considered as one of the fastest growing medium-sized cities in the United States,  Bakersfield is a town that isn’t too small but also not extremely large. It is a very conservative town with a strong political history and home to several musical artists. Affordable and inexpensive, it is a perfect melting pot to raise a family without breaking the bank.

Although not what you may call a tourist destination, there are a lot of family friendly places in Bakersfield that are just within fairly short driving distance.

Here are the reasons you can be proud to call Bakersfield your home:

Known As The Country Music Capital of the West Coast. Bakersfield has long been renowned as the home of country legends like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, and was once called “the country music capital of the West Coast.”  Throughout the years, Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace has been home to concerts by country music legends as well as today’s hottest artists.

Plenty of Opportunities To Enjoy The Outdoors. Bakersfield has hundreds of miles of bike paths and lanes and nearly 60 parks. One treasure is the Kern River Parkway that meanders along the Kern River. There is wildlife, such as bobcats, egrets, herons, hawks, harriers, and the like. Just ride your bike along and enjoy the scenery.

Explore Public Histories With A Visit To The Museum. If a trip to museum is your cup of tea, the award-winning Bakersfield Museum of Art is a must-see, as is the California Living Museum, known as CALM, which exhibits animals and plants native to California.

The Classic Fox Theater.  The Fox is a gem in downtown Bakersfield. It is one of the best go to places for concerts and other events with nicer acoustics than other concert venues in town. The theater is beautiful inside, has a great lobby where you can mix with friends and the location is just about perfect.

Bakersfield is the Oil Capital of California. This may not seem like that big a deal until you find out that Kern County is actually the nation’s most oil productive county. Can’t beat that, Texas!

Short Drive To The Coast and LA. Commute time within town is no more than five minutes to destination. Los Angeles is 2 hours south and San Francisco is 6 hours north. It is central to a lot of things in Southern California, like the beach, Los Angeles, the mountains, and the desert.

Lots of Places For A Good Bite. Bakersfield does have some great restaurants. Noriega‘s is the oldest Basque restaurant founded in 1893 and continues to run till today. Dinner is served family style at one sitting in the evening and is traditional Basque. Service is always spot on and the ability to meet new people is easy with the long table style seating.

An Affordable Place To Live In California. Cost of living is very hard to beat. You can live here much more cheaply and still be in a city than anywhere you have ever been or lived. Everything is affordable from land, to food, to the night life, etc.

Great Schools For Kids and Older Children. Choosing a good school in Bakersfield for your children is easy.  Stockdale, Liberty and Centennial High School were ranked as the best public high schools in Kern City according to the U.S. Department of Education.

Bakersfield, California is a continuously evolving city and if you consider putting down roots in this town, just give us a call and we’ll find the right community for you!
